"Art is highly subjective. It frequently supplies a room with its heart and soul; at a bare minimum, it contributes color, graphic interest, and, sometimes, a hint of controversy. So I never underestimate its value. Before I had even drawn a floor plan for this duplex apartment in Moscow, I came across a luminous photograph by Candida Höfer of the royal box at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, in Lisbon, and immediately envisioned it hanging in the empty penthouse’s living room. There, adjacent to a bank of windows, I knew it would provide a glimpse into another world and give the impression of an additional light source. The image’s pink, pistachio, almond, and silvery tones reminded me of a tray of macarons at the famed patisserie Ladurée. But, more importantly, they epitomized the client, who is feminine, delicate, and chic; we adopted them as our go-to colors." Kate Hume
